Marie-Antoinette Tondt, who married Albert Paquet in 1970, is the mother of two boys, Claude and Georges. She distinguished herself through her unwavering commitment to the municipality of Niederanven. In tribute to this dedicated politician, the municipality named a street after her and wrote this text in her honour:
‘Who in the municipality of Niederanven did not know her: this petite lady, an active member of the Municipal Council, with a big heart, dynamic, unique and authentic in her style. She was recently appointed ’Honorary Councillor" by the municipal authorities for more than 20 years of service on the Municipal Council.
She was very active in social work for many years. As an “eternal scout”, she was always ready to lend a hand where help was needed. She was imbued with altruism and committed to defending the disadvantaged in society; integration and social causes were her motto. She worked tirelessly in this context, whether as chair of the integration committee, the social committee, or as a member of the civil hospice or the social office. As a member of the local ‘Douzelage’ committee, she was always ready to represent the interests of the municipality in the twin towns and did not hesitate to make often long or tedious journeys as a municipal delegate. The list of her achievements is long. She was not only committed to helping people, but also had a big heart for animals. With passionate conviction, she gave many dogs and cats a loving home.
Marie-Antoinette Paquet-Tondt passed away on 17 November 2020, leaving a huge void in the municipality of Niederanven. It will be a long time before the municipality finds someone else who is as committed and active in serving the community.
