## Who is she?

Marguerite Cécile Wagner was born on 4 September 1911 in Dudelange. In 1930, she married the socialist deputy and alderman Nicolas Biever in Dudelange. She was a housewife and the mother of two children, Louise (1931) and Jean (1935). The family was evacuated in 1940 and spent the war years in Saint-Haon-le-Vieux in the Loire department, in a small farmhouse that they rented.

On 3 July 1950, her husband was appointed Minister of Labour. Cécile was president of the "Foyer de la femme" and of the social welfare service in Dudelange.

In the 1960s, she took part in meetings of the Socialist International Women. She stood for the first time in the 1969 elections on the Socialist Party list in Dudelange and was elected with 4,381 votes in fourth place in the municipal council. She was the first woman councillor in Dudelange from 1970 to 1975. Cécile Wagner was involved with the "Socialist Women" of Dudelange and was a member of the committee of the "Foyer de la Femme", the gymnastics club and the Amiperas.

Cécile Biever-Wagner died on 14 February 2005 in Dudelange.
